Ada County Courthouse, Idaho
The courthouse, built on 14.5 acres of land in downtown Boise, was completed in 2002. Because of public-private partnerships and revenue bonds, no taxes for its construction or maintenance have ever or will ever be assessed to taxpayers. Geothermal water is piped in from Warm Springs Avenue a few blocks away and is used to heat the building, reducing pollution and saving 70 percent over a natural gas alternative. A step inside reveals a multi-story foyer, with dual open-air winding staircases to the second floor and curving walls that create a majestic and inviting atmosphere. In addition to courtrooms, the building is home to administrative offices, a separate prisoner holding area, an underground parking garage, hearing and assembly rooms and retail stores.
