Lewis and Clark County Courthouse, Montana
Courthouse Image
Built in 1887, the courthouse for Lewis and Clark County in the capital of Helena was the site where officials learned Montana had been awarded statehood. A stone building with Victorian influences, the courthouse symbolizes the wealth brought to the area by the mining boom of the 1800s. A clock tower stood high above the surrounding buildings until an earthquake damaged it in 1935 and it was removed.
