Reno Federal Courthouse, Nevada
Courthouse Image
Completed in 1996, the federal courthouse on Virginia Street in Reno is officially known as the Bruce R. Thompson United States Courthouse and Federal Building and features Sierra white granite on the ground-level facade. In 1963 President Kennedy appointed Thompson, who was born in Reno in 1911 and earned a law degree from Stanford Law School, to the U.S. District Court bench, a position he held until his death in 1992. A congressional report noted that virtually every legal organization in Nevada had unanimously passed a resolution in favor of naming the courthouse after him. (Kent Lauer / CNS)
